Sound Pryer: truly mobile joint music listening
نویسندگان
چکیده
Following the widespread adoption of music media sharing applications for the Internet a growing number of research projects have explored sharing in a mobile context. Insofar these projects have mainly addressed face-to-face copresence situations. The Sound Pryer prototype, on the other hand, is designed to provide joint music listening experiences among drivers in traffic. Through field trials with a prototype application we have learned the importance of including awareness information but not necessarily distributing complete music media content in order to provide meaningful experiences.

In essence it works like a shared car-stereo. Besides playing your own music, it allows prying on...
متن کاملAdding Value to Traffic Encounters: a Design Rationale for Mobile Ad Hoc Computing Services
The roads are places where an extensive amount of everyday meetings among people occur. Two issues make the social interaction meagre. First, when driving, high speed makes these encounters brief. Second, driving often involves being enclosed by a hull of a vehicle. Consequently, this interaction and, in the end, also driving, occasionally becomes tedious. We suggest a design rationale for mobi...

Music making and listening are a clear example of a human activity that is above all interactive and social, two big challenges for novel HCI paradigms. Nowadays, however, listening to music is usually still a passive, non-interactive experience. As humans, we have the natural capability of localizing the origin of sounds. Spatial audio rendering leverages this skill by applying special filters to recorded audio to create the impression that a sound emanates from a certain position in the physical space. A main application for spatial audio on mobile devices is to provide non-visual navigation cues. Current systems require users to eith...
